Description

1915-S Indian Eagle, MS62
Scarce Low-Mintage Issue

1915-S $10 MS62 PCGS. The 1915-S Indian eagle is a scarce coin in high grade, from a small mintage of 59,000 pieces. In addition to the low mintage, the 1915-S has a low survival rate, with few examples saved by collectors and most of the mintage destroyed after the Gold Recall of the 1930s. David Akers estimates perhaps 175-200 coins survive in all Mint State grades, with 140-165 specimens in the MS60-MS63 range.
The present coin is a pleasing MS62 example, with sharply detailed design elements and good, but somewhat subtle mint luster. The surfaces are an attractive orange-gold color, with mottled green highlights. Population: 49 in 62, 59 finer (3/11).(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 28H6, PCGS# 8879)

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
