Description

Rare 1930-S Ten Dollar, MS62

1930-S $10 MS62 NGC. Only 96,000 pieces were originally minted of the 1930-S ten. But this issue was not released into circulation and it was also heavily melted, making it one of the key issues in the ten dollar Indian series. A mere 85 to 100 pieces are now believed to exist of the 1930-S, virtually all of which are in mint condition. The high grade these pieces are located in is also a clear indicator that most were never distributed and subsequently melted. This particular piece is sharply struck with rich orange-gold color and no mentionable abrasions. An exciting opportunity for the 20th century gold specialist.
Purchased from Abner Kreisberg Corporation on August 26, 1980 for $19,500.
From The Beverly Hills Collection.(#8883) (Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 28HA, PCGS# 8883)

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
