Description

1908 Half Eagle, MS65
Exceptional First-Year Type Coin

1908 $5 MS65 PCGS. Bela Lyon Pratt's innovative incuse design for the half eagle was struck for the first time in 1908, with a reported mintage of 577,845 pieces. Many examples were saved by the general public for their novelty value and contemporary collectors preserved some high-quality coins for posterity. As a result, the 1908 is the most available issue of the series in high grade, making it doubly popular with type collectors.

The present coin is a delightful Gem, with razor-sharp definition on all design elements. The well-preserved orange-gold surfaces radiate vibrant mint luster and show few signs of contact. Eye appeal is outstanding. PCGS has graded 21 numerically finer examples (12/13).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 28DE, PCGS# 8510)
