Description

1908-S Half Eagle, MS66
Elusive in This Grade

1908-S $5 MS66 NGC. The 1908-S half eagle is a low-mintage (82,000 pieces) but high-survival date, apparently saved in relatively high numbers as a first-year issue. Examples can be had through near-Gem with minimum difficulty; even Gems can be acquired with patience and searching. The issue becomes very elusive in MS66 and finer.
Bright luster emanates from the peach-gold surfaces of this Premium Gem, and a solid strike imparts sharp definition to the design elements, including the Indian's hair and headdress feathers and the eagle's plumage. This is a wonderfully preserved specimen. We mention a couple of minute milling marks just to the left of the left (facing) wing solely for pedigree purposes. Census: 12 in 66, 7 finer (11/11).(Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 65K3, PCGS# 8512)
