Description

1913-S Five Dollar Indian, MS63
Borderline Condition Rarity

1913-S $5 MS63 PCGS. CAC. In theory (at least according to the Guide Book), the 1913-S half eagle prices close to type in VF and XF condition. In practice -- the AU to Mint State grades where most collectors are active with this series -- the premium on the 1913-S date ranges from tens to thousands of dollars. At the MS63 level, the 1913-S half eagle is a borderline condition rarity, and in MS64 and better grades, the major grading services have certified just 27 pieces between them (2/13). While this Select example is lightly abraded with a few copper spots and a mushy mintmark, its gleaming orange-laced luster redeems the eye appeal.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 25ZP, PCGS# 8526)
