Description

1908 Indian Quarter Eagle, MS66
High-End Type Representative

1908 $2 1/2 MS66 PCGS. While certainly not the most plentiful from an absolute standpoint (that honor goes to the 1925 and later issues), the 1908 quarter eagle is the most easily obtainable in MS66 condition, making this first-year issue ideal for type purposes. This example is remarkably well-preserved, as the grade suggests, and displays shimmering green-gold luster. The eagle's wing is softly defined, an effect of poor engraving of the die and not striking pressure. This characteristic was corrected on the 1909 dies. PCGS has seen just two numerically finer representatives (7/14).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 288Y, PCGS# 7939)
