Description

1908 Indian Head Quarter Eagle
First-Year Premium Gem

1908 $2 1/2 MS66 PCGS. First-year production issues faced the new Indian Head design when the Philadelphia Mint struck 564,800 quarter eagles. Improper die preparation resulted in some softness on the eagle's shoulder and wing. This Premium Gem demonstrates the weakness on the wing, but is sharply struck otherwise and the sunken design elements are sharp and attractive. Peach-gold surfaces display frosted luster and orange accents over the multilevel devices. Seldom seen any finer, with just five examples in a higher numeric grade by PCGS and NGC combined (7/14).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 288Y, PCGS# 7939)
