Description
1977-D Half Dollar, MS62
Struck on a 40% Silver Planchet
Rare Transitional Alloy Error
1977-D 50C -- Struck on a 40% Silver Planchet -- MS62 PCGS.
177 gn. The 40% silver alloy, a holdover from the 1965 debasement,
was supposed to have been struck for the final time on the 1976-S
Bicentennial half dollar and Ike dollar. Murphy's Law ensured that
a very small quantity of misplaced or leftover 40% silver planchets
ended up between dies for the next year's coinage. Lustrous,
lightly toned, sharply struck, and well preserved.
