Description:
1793 S-5, B-6 Wreath Cent, MS62 Brown
Large Date and LIBERTY
Among the First Wreath Cents
1793 1C Wreath Cent, Vine and Bars MS62 Brown PCGS. S-5, B-6, R.4. Ex: Husak. This is the only Wreath cent obverse with large letters in LIBERTY and large numerals in the date, a distinctive style that is recognized at a glance. The font size is similar to the Chain cents, and for that reason the S-5 is listed first in the emission sequence, believed to be the first Wreath cent produced during the first few days in April 1793. In fact, the early die state suggests that this piece was one of the first Wreath cents ever minted. The Chain cents were discontinued in March following public criticism, and the new Wreath design began early the next month. The first delivery of Wreath cents totaled 12,000 pieces delivered on April 9.
Above-average surfaces have attractive olive and steel-brown color, with a tiny nick on the cheek that is the only obvious provenance marker on either side. Both sides are glossy with traces of luster in the protected areas, especially visible on the reverse. Sharply struck and nicely centered with a full border. This example is the sixth or seventh finest known, depending on the specific census being referenced. Our EAC grade AU50.

Learn About Consigning With Us
What I most appreciated was how thorough you were when we initially met, how you were conservative in your estimates, not trying to get me to consign by giving false expectations, and then for delivering above and beyond on your commitment to me of a wonderful marketing campaign and a first rate catalog and photos, all of which resulted in a final total price realized that was nicely higher than what you had told me to expect.
