1793 Chain Cent With Periods, Fine 15 PCGS1793 Chain 1C Periods Fine 15 PCGS. S-4, High R.3. Periods follow LIBERTY and the date, the only die marriage of the type with this feature. More difficult to find than Sheldon-3, which is usually chosen to represent the short-lived Chain type. All legends are clear on the present piece, which has deep mahogany-brown color. The surfaces are unusually smooth for the type, however, a few pinprick indentions are scattered over each side. Several rim bumps are also visible mostly on the obverse side. Still, a worthwhile, attractive example of this premier issue. Population: 5 in 15, 17 finer (6/05).(#91341)(Registry values: P5) (PCGS# 91341)
