Description

1796 S-114, B-42 Cent, XF45
Tied for Fourth Finest Known

1796 1C Draped Bust, Reverse of 1797 XF45 PCGS. CAC. S-114, B-42, Low R.5. Our EAC Grade VF25. Breen Die State I, with a perfect obverse die and the reverse showing the short crack from the right to the second T in STATES. This is an important, recently discovered example that was hidden in a private collection since the early 20th century, unknown to the large cent community. The sharpness is at least VF30, with lovely golden olive-brown surfaces and minimal circulation marks. Our EAC grade places this coin in a tie for fourth finest in both the Bland and Noyes census records.
Ex: George Dyer Collection (Stack's-Bowers, 11/2011), lot 250.
From The Adam Mervis Large Cent Collection.(Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 223W, PCGS# 1407)

This is why I like purchasing from Heritage, you are so customer oriented and with your size and my meager purchases it always amazes me how quickly you respond.
