Description:
Choice AU55 1817 N-7 Cent with Mouse
1817 1C 13 Stars MS62 Brown NGC. AU55 EAC. N-7, Late Die State, R.3. This is the second of four mouse varieties with a prominent die chip on top of Liberty's head. A point to ponder: why did four different obverse dies of 1817 each develop very similar "mouse" die breaks, yet no others develop in the entire series? The obverse has extensive flowlines and weakened border details while the reverse has a crisp and bold border. Attractive mottled brown surfaces with only minor imperfections including a faint scratch in the left obverse field. This example is tied for fifth finest of the variety.
