Description:
Early Die State 1831 N-12 Cent
1831 1C Large Letters MS64 Brown NGC. AU55 EAC. N-12, Early Die State, R.1. Although this is one of the most common varieties of the year, it is also one of the most popular due to numerous exciting die stages. All known examples have a circular crack through the date and all the stars. In later die states, a rim break develops at star 13, eventually enveloping stars 12 and 13. During these various stages of the obverse die life, the reverse remains perfect. This is an early die state example with the circular crack, but no evidence of the rim break. Lovely olive-brown surfaces are accented by reddish-brown toning. These surfaces have good luster and few minor marks. A splendid example.
