Description:

1857-S Spiked Shield Twenty, MS66
1857-S $20 MS66 PCGS. CAC. Variety 20-A. Spiked Shield, although not attributed on the PCGS insert. This piece has recently been certified, or more likely recertified, in the latest-generation PCGS holder with insert of blue transitioning to white at the bottom. While this Premium Gem 1857-S twenty is not specifically provenanced to the S.S. Central America, it certainly bears every hallmark, including its status as the most widely found die variety recovered from that historic shipwreck. This piece has that "SSCA look" about it as well, light canary-yellow around the rims ceding to deeper honey-gold in the interiors. Generous luster and few mentionable marks complete the broad eye appeal.(Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 2696, PCGS# 8922)
