1859 $20 VF30 NGC....
Scarce 1859 Liberty Twenty, VF301859 $20 VF30 NGC. A rare issue that is typically found in VF or XF grades, the 1859 had a mintage of only 43,597 coins at a time when most collectors preferred to acquire proof examples for only a slight increase over face value. Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth comment: "the issue was largely ignored by early collectors who preferred Proof examples of Philadelphia coinage. As a result, the 1859 double eagle is very scarce in any grade." This piece has typical minor surface marks, including a small obverse rim bump at 11:30. The light yellow-gold surfaces are faintly reflective, retaining remnants of original prooflike mirrors.
