Scarce 1861 Double Eagle, MS631861 $20 MS63 NGC. The 1861 double eagle, with a mintage of nearly 3 million pieces, is easily located in any circulated grade, and is only marginally scarce in the lower Uncirculated grades. It becomes scarce in MS63, where fewer than 60 coins have been certified by NGC and PCGS. Appealing luster is apparent over each side, which consists of apricot-gold color. The design features are well struck, with just minor softness on portions of Liberty's hair, which is typical for the issue. A few light contact marks and luster grazes account for the grade. Census: 26 in 63, 26 finer 42/06).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 269G, PCGS# 8932)
