Description:
High-End VF30 1861-S Paquet Reverse Twenty
1861-S $20 Paquet VF30 PCGS. The distinctive Paquet reverse is easy to spot, with its tall letters on the reverse, and for many years the issue, produced to the extent of 19,250 coins, was thought to be a pattern. More recent numismatic scholarship, however, has shown the coins to be a regular issue, but a flawed one whose production was ceased shortly after it began. Sufficient numbers of the S-mint issue were struck that today perhaps 200 coins are known, most of them in circulated grades. The present piece, certified in a PCGS green-label holder, still shows a bit of mint luster in the fields, suggesting a higher grade despite the obvious wear. There are no singular impairments, and as such this piece may represent good value for someone wanting an example for a type or date set without paying the Mint State price.
