Description:
Lustrous Near-Mint 1864-S Double Eagle
1864-S $20 AU58 PCGS. While not specifically labeled as having been on board the S.S. Brother Jonathan, one might reasonably assume that was the case from the high grade of this particular coin and the general excellent condition most of the twenties were in when they were salvaged from that ship. Just the slightest trace of friction is seen over the surfaces with almost complete mint luster present. Sharply defined, the surfaces have a light orange-golden coloration with no obvious surface impairments. (#8942) (Registry values: N1793) (NGC ID# 269T, PCGS# 8942)
