Mint State 1870-S Twenty1870-S MS 60 NGC. A premium quality example whose surfaces are curiously clean for the grade level. The strike is far from complete but certainly above average for the series. While this is an appealing specimen, its subdued luster and dull tan-gold appearance accounts for the low Mint State designation. Even though the San Francisco Mint delivered 982,000 double eagles in 1870, few pieces were saved from the channels of commerce. A lot that is of utmost importance to the gold collector.
