1876-CC Twenty Dollar, MS611876-CC $20 MS61 PCGS. CAC. Variety 3-A. Double eagle production at Carson City crested in 1876. 138,411 pieces were struck, using at least nine die pairs, though the production was less than one-tenth the mintage at San Francisco that year. Later during the 19th century, volume exports of gold coins to Europe became commonplace. As a result, the 1876-CC is readily collectible today in XF and AU grades. However, relatively few pieces remained in Uncirculated condition by the time of export, and perhaps none received numismatic consideration as PCGS has yet to grade any examples above MS62 (4/13). The present Mint State representative displays cartwheel sheen and is nicely struck. The scattered minor marks are consistent with the designated grade.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 26AW, PCGS# 8977)
