Description

1889-S Near-Gem Twenty Dollar
Among Finest Certified
Stunning Eye Appeal

1889-S $20 MS64 PCGS. The 1889-S double eagle comes from a large mintage of 774,700 pieces, making it readily available through MS63. The population falls dramatically at the near-Gem level, where PCGS and NGC combined have graded just 18 examples, and none are finer!

This MS64 offering is an infrequent opportunity for the advanced gold collector to acquire this conditionally rare issue. Both sides are awash with intense mint luster and display attractive orange-gold patination imbued with hints of apricot and reddish-gold. Excellent detail is apparent on all design features, enhancing even more the coin's stunning eye appeal. A milling mark in the field near the tip of Liberty's nose and four light marks in horizontal alignment between the OL of DOLLAR and the eagle's tail might help identify the coin for future researchers and catalogers. Population: 13 in 64, 0 finer (3/13).
