Description

Uncirculated 1892-CC Twenty
Reflective Fields on Each Side

1892-CC $20 MS61 NGC. Probably less than 1% of the original mintage of 1892-CC double eagles survives today in Mint State, perhaps 200 examples out of the production of 27,265 pieces. By the time this coin was struck, Nevada's fabled Comstock Lode had largely played out, and many of the Liberty Head double eagles produced at all U.S. mints from the mid-1880s forward were exported and melted -- even those from Carson City. This Mint State example displays even, bright yellow-gold color with noticeably reflective fields on each side. There are remarkably few abrasions present for the grade, and the piece is sharply struck throughout. Census: 76 in 61, 44 finer (1/13).(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 26C6, PCGS# 9020)
