Significant 1838 Ten Dollar AU501838 $10 AU50 NGC. The 1838 is a rare and historic issue. Only a small fraction of the 7,200 pieces struck still survive today, and most are in lesser condition than the present sharp and problem-free example. The 1838 re-introduced the eagle denomination after a gap of 34 years, not counting the novodel 1804 proofs intended for presentation to foreign rulers. The 1838 is also the rarer of just two issues of the Large Letters subtype, which also has a different interpretation of Liberty. The head leans forward, and the bust truncation is prominently curved. Encased in a prior generation holder. Census: 9 in 50, 13 finer (12/06).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 262D, PCGS# 8575)
