Description:
1838 Ten Dollar, Two-Year Type, AU Details
Pleasing Appearance for the Grade
1838 $10 -- Obverse Scratched -- NGC Details. AU. Any 1838 ten dollar is scarce due to the low mintage of just 7,200 pieces. Most are XF or lower condition, and to find an attractive AU coin with good color is an achievement. The scratch on this coin is difficult to distinguish from the normal circulation abrasions, but a thin line directly under the chin is the culprit. Although not mentioned by NGC, there is similar outlining seen above the eagle on the reverse. A moderate amount of prooflike flash remains on the reverse, clearly visible within the letters and surrounding the eagle.

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
