Description:
Rare, Low Mintage 1841-O Eagle
1841-O XF 45 NGC. The '41-O is one of the premier rarities in the No Motto series of tens. Only 2,500 pieces were struck and all appear to have been liberally used in the channels of commerce as the average specimen is both low grade and heavily abraded. The mintage of 2,500 pieces is the lowest of the type from 1839 to 1859, and the '41-O has the third lowest mintage of any eagle struck in the New Orleans mint. The coin has bright green-gold surfaces. Remnants of a prooflike finish are just faintly visible on each side, and the surfaces are extensively abraded, as mentioned. Softly struck on the highpoints of the design. (NGC ID# 262J, PCGS# 8583)
