Condition Census 1842-O Ten Dollar1842-O $10 AU 58 NGC. Extremely well struck and very lustrous with just a bit of wear noted on the high spots. Bright green-gold color is seen on each side. A few small obverse rim marks are well concealed within the holder. One of the nicer 1842-O eagles we have sold and certainly at the tail end of the Condition Census for this issue.
As of June 1999, PCGS had graded no 1842-O eagles in AU 58 and only one better (an MS 63). NGC had graded six in AU 58 and two better (one in MS 61 and one in MS 62).
Two varieties are known for the 1842-O. The first employs the reverse of 1841-O and it is the scarcer of the two. The second, of which the present coin is a good example, uses the same reverse seen on 1843-O eagles.
