Description:
Elusive Choice About Uncirculated 1855-O Liberty Eagle
1855-O $10 AU55 NGC. One of only 70-75 examples believed extant (per Winter, 1992) from an original mintage of 18,000 pieces, this '55-O Ten is far finer than the typically offered VF survivor. The strike is somewhat above average for this often poorly impressed date, but we do note some isolated areas of incompleteness here and there. Still, all major design elements are appreciably sharp, and the extensively abraded features are uncommonly free of sizeable and/or individually distracting blemishes. Rich green-gold undertones backlight warmer orange-gold highlights. In terms of total number of coins known, the 1855-O is more difficult to locate than such other O-mint Tens from the 1850s as the 1851-O, 1853-O, 1854-O, and 1858-O. (NGC ID# 263M, PCGS# 8617)
