Rare, Low Mintage 1856 Ten Dollar in MS 631856 $10 MS 63 PCGS. Like the 1848 and 1852, the 1856 (60,490 pieces produced) is a scarce coin in all grades that becomes undeniably rare above the Mint State threshold. All three of these issues are offered less frequently than the 1847, 1849, 1850, 1853, and 1855. This is a Condition Census example, and the surfaces exhibit a frosty, reddish-gold finish. The luster thins slightly in a few areas, perhaps the grade-limiting feature, but neither side reveals any singularly mentionable abrasions. Well struck for the type despite characteristic softness of detail over some of the star centrils. NGC and PCGS combined have seen only six coins in MS 63, and none are finer (7/00).
