1858 $10 MS60 NGC....
Important 1858 Liberty Eagle Rarity1858 $10 MS60 NGC. This is a classic rarity within the Liberty Eagle series. Just 2,521 examples were coined, the 15th lowest mintage of the entire design from 1838 to 1907, and the fifth lowest of the No Motto issue. Mint State examples of this issue are extremely rare. In our own Auction Archives, we have listings for only 23 examples of this date in all grades, and most of those represent repeated appearances of a small number of coins. We have only offered three Mint State examples, one which is offered again in this sale. Walter Breen suggested that only about 12 to 15 examples of this issue survive today, and, while we feel that total may be a little low, there are realistically not more than about 25 or 30 examples surviving, to the best of our knowledge. This is a pleasing example with light yellow surfaces and slightly reflective fields. Both sides have light to moderate abrasions that are consistent with the grade. A few small marks along the edge of Liberty's neck, and a few others scattered about the fields on both sides should prove to be adequate pedigree identifiers. Population: 2 in 60, 2 finer (1/05).(#8625) (Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 263W, PCGS# 8625)
