Description:
Rarely Seen Choice AU 1864 Eagle
1864 $10 AU55 NGC. The 1864 is a very rare P-mint eagle from a very small original mintage of only 3,530 pieces. Like many Civil War era issues, the '64 ten is also a condition rarity. Of the few survivors known to collectors, many fall in the VF-XF category. Each side presents a bright, yellow-gold appearance with faint traces of a prooflike finish still in evidence around the devices. Quite clean for this normally abraded issue, only a few small marks are noted over the eagle on the reverse. Still, an attractive coin that is sure to find a happy home with some appreciative collector. Population: 4 in 55, 3 finer (11/03).(#8639) (Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 264D, PCGS# 8639)
