Important Choice AU 1867 Eagle1867 $10 AU55 PCGS. Ex: Bass. The absence of relevant marks ensures the quality of this partly lustrous and impressive Choice AU early Motto Eagle. Gold coins did not circulate except on the West Coast in 1867, due to paper money and Gresham's Law. Export needs were filled with more convenient Double Eagles, and Philadelphia Mint Eagle production was limited to nearly token quantities. Just 3,090 pieces were struck, and the handful of contemporary collectors selected proofs. PCGS has yet to certify a Mint State example.
