Description

Scarce Carson City Issue, 1872-CC Eagle XF40 NGC

1872-CC $10 XF40 NGC. The Carson City Mint delivered only 4,600 eagles in 1872, and what few examples have survived are among the rarest products of the fabled Nevada branch mint. In grades above VF 35, this issue compares favorably with the much more publicized 1870-CC. All of the major features on the current example are sharp, and the overall appearance is one of original red-gold hue, with subtle green and pink accents. Noticeably abraded, both sides are, however, remarkably problem-free for a circulated CC-mint gold coin, showing only superficial blemishes. With few coins graded AU, and none in Mint State, this specimen will certainly elicit strong bids from gold collectors and Carson City specialists alike. Population: 5 in 40, 14 finer (4/03). (NGC ID# 2652, PCGS# 8664)
