Extremely Scarce 1873 Liberty Ten Dollar VF301873 $10 Closed 3 VF30 PCGS. The 1873 is one of the five or six rarest dates in the series of Coronet Tens according to Akers, and among Philadelphia coins only the 1875 is rarer. Just 800 business strikes were originally produced. This coin saw extensive use in the channels of commerce before being set aside as being worth more than its melt value. Uncleaned, the surfaces have that "dirty gold" look of originality with a light accent of rose patina surrounding the devices and within the recesses. The only mark of note is a thin scratch just above the top of the coronet between stars 6 and 8. Population: 1 in 30, 12 finer (4/03). (NGC ID# 2654, PCGS# 8666)
