Seldom-Seen 1873-CC Eagle1873-CC VF 20 ANACS. The 1873-CC is an elusive Carson City ten-dollar that is one of the great condition rarities in the series as well, rated as third scarcest in the series in high grades. It has been well known to collectors as a rarity for many years, inspired not only by its lack of availability, but also by its small mintage of only 4,543 pieces. The Winter/Cutler reference Gold Coins of the Old West estimates that as few as 50-60 coins exist today in all grades. This piece is virtually free from abrasions, except for one shallow milling mark on the cheek of Liberty. The devices are well worn, but in all fairness much of the lack of detail can probably be attributed to the soft strike always seen on this issue. (NGC ID# 2655, PCGS# 8667)
