About Uncirculated 1875-CC Liberty Ten1875-CC $10 AU50 NGC. Surpassed in high grade rarity by only the 1870-CC and 1873-CC, the 1875-CC has an extant population of 55-65 coins from an original mintage of 7,715 pieces. According to Winter (1994), there are only two AU '75-CC Eagles extant, with none in Mint State. These figures have since changed, and NGC and PCGS currently report 17 coins in AU and two in Mint State (5/01). Nevertheless, the offering of a high grade circulated example of this CC-mint issue is an occasion of pride for us, and a fleeting opportunity for the advanced gold specialist. We last offered an AU50 (PCGS) example as lot 7339 in our Philadelphia 2000 Signature Sale (8/00). That coin realized $14,500.
The present survivor is expectantly abraded for a circulated CC-mint gold coin with a pair of reeding marks behind Liberty's neck that serve as pedigree markers. Ample satin luster remains on both sides, the strike is typically soft for the issue with bluntness of detail noted over the central obverse and the lower reverse portrait. An important CC-mint Eagle with a warm, golden-rose sheen. Accompanied by PCGS insert 3682290 that confirms the same grade from that service.
