Description:
1876 Eagle, Appealing AU58
687 Pieces Made for Circulation
1876 $10 AU58 PCGS. The 1876 eagle has a scant production of just 687 circulation strikes and 45 proofs. Despite the extremely low mintage, contemporary collector demand was satisfied by the few proofs; the business strikes entered circulation. Only two examples have been certified in Mint State, an MS60 at PCGS and an MS61 Prooflike at NGC. Only a small percentage of the original mintage has survived in any condition.

The bright orange-gold surfaces of this near-Mint State specimen are partially prooflike, especially on the reverse, which exhibits modest field-device contrast at various angles. The design elements are sharply impressed, further enhancing the coin's overall eye appeal. Distributed light marks are undistracting. Population: 1 in 58, 1 finer (11/13).
From the collection of Donald E. Bently, sold for the benefit of the Bently Foundation.(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 265C, PCGS# 8674)
