Description:
1878-CC Liberty Eagle, AU55
Rare Low-Mintage Issue
1878-CC $10 AU55 NGC. Variety 1-A. The 1878-CC is one of the rarest Carson City eagles, from a tiny mintage of just 3,244 pieces. The issue is scarce-to-rare in all grades, and Doug Winter estimates no more than 45-55 examples remain extant. The issue is most often seen in the VF-XF range, and Choice AU specimens are rare. The NGC Census Report lists a single Mint State example, an MS63 coin, which is the finest known by five full points
The present coin is an attractive Choice AU piece, with only a touch of wear on the well-detailed design elements The light copper-gold surfaces retain much of their original mint luster, and show only minor contact marks. Census: 11 in 55, 3 finer (6/12)..(Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 265K, PCGS# 8681)
