Description

Seldom Offered 1879-CC Eagle, AU50

1879-CC $10 AU50 PCGS. Winter 1-A. Formerly offered as lot 7196 in our 2000 Santa Clara Sale, where it was described in part as, "The lowest mintage (1,762 pieces) CC-mint eagle, the 1879-CC is also the second rarest Carson City eagle after the legendary 1870-CC. We believe that between 35 and 45 coins are extant in all grades, the majority of which have settled at the VF and XF levels...Medium green-gold surfaces present a well struck appearance by CC-mint standards. Traces of the original finish are evident, this piece being frosty with modest prooflike tendencies in the fields. There are no more than the expected number of abrasions for the grade and issue combination. A rare and important offering, this coin should see spirited bidding." Population: 7 in 50, 6 finer (10/02), with none certified in Mint State. (NGC ID# 265N, PCGS# 8684)
