1883-S $10 MS66 PCGS....
The Bass Gem Mint State 1883-S Coronet Eagle1883-S $10 MS66 PCGS. The Finest Known! H. W. Bass, Jr. This is a wonder coin which is a country mile ahead of any other specimen of this date. The surfaces are stunning, with a strong glass needed to see a few trivial signs of contact. The luster is radiant for an eagle of this period, and the color ranges from yellow-gold at the centers to rose-gold in the fields and a touch of greenish-gold at the rims. Fully struck throughout with no signs of weakness found. Identifiable simply by the superb quality of this coin, and a tiny dark speck on the top corner of Liberty's forehead next to her hair. The mintage for the year came in at a low 38,000 pieces, and while overshadowed by the pathetic 800 pieces of the 1883-O released, the 1883-S is quite scarce in its own right. Turning to the NGC and PCGS population reports, it is interesting to note that not only is this coin the finest graded, but the next grade level below in MS63. This coin simply has no competition, with quality so far above any other specimen of this date. A prize for the specialist.
