Description:
Beautiful, High Grade 1899-S Eagle
1899-S MS 64 PCGS. A surprisingly scarce issue given that 841,000 pieces were struck. We have offered very few examples of this date over the past several years, this easily being the finest we have handled. This is an extraordinary coin that must be seen to be fully appreciated. Not only are the surfaces free from almost all post-striking impairments, but the mint luster gives this coin a life and vibrancy that is missing from all but the finest examples. The interior portions of each side show a pale pinkish-yellow color that quickly deepens to a rich orange-gold toward the rims. The only mark that keeps this coin from the gem category is a single milling mark on the cheek of Liberty. Population: 6 in 64, only 3 finer (9/95). (NGC ID# 267L, PCGS# 8744)
