Description:
1847-D Five Dollar, About Uncirculated
Nice Coin for Type Purposes
1847-D $5 AU50 NGC. Variety 20-I (formerly 17-I). Two reverse die varieties are known for the 1847-D five. On this variant the left side of the mintmark is noticeably shifted to the left from the 16-M variety. With a mintage of 64,405 pieces, the 1847-D has a sufficiently large survivorship that it is considered one of the more easily obtainable D-mint fives. It is estimated that 275-325 pieces are estimated to exist today in all grades, perhaps 60-78 of which are in AU. This is a pleasing, well-struck example that is minimally abraded. The surfaces show light green-gold color. A small area of planchet porosity is noted in the crook of the eagle's neck and left (facing) wing.(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 25TP, PCGS# 8234)
