Description:
Choice AU 1858-C Five Dollar
1858-C $5 AU55 NGC. Variety 26-K. While the 1858-C is considered one of the more "common" Charlotte half eagles, only 185-195 pieces are believed known today in all grades. It can usually be found in AU condition (with some patience), and such pieces are popular as type coins. This is an original coin that displays rich orange-gold color. Well, but not fully defined; there are a number of small abrasions scattered about, the most obvious located on the Liberty's cheek. Planchet roughness is also noted around the eagle, a common trait on this issue.(Registry values: P3) (NGC ID# 25V8, PCGS# 8277)
