Description:
Rare 1866-S No Motto Half Eagle
1866-S $5 No Motto PCGS Genuine. The PCGS number ending in .94 suggests Altered Surfaces as the reason, or perhaps one of the reasons, that PCGS deemed this coin not gradable. In our opinion, this coin has the details of an AU specimen that has been cleaned. This rare date half eagle has only a hint of wear on the hairbun and wingtips, but the fields are unduly bright from a past wipe. Just 9,000 pieces were struck, and none of the 100 or so survivors have been certified in Mint State.(Registry values: P8, N8) (NGC ID# 25VY, PCGS# 8300)
