Description:
1866-S $5 No Motto VF25 PCGS. A problem-free tan-gold example without detracting marks. A rare issue, since the mintage of 9,000 pieces went into circulation and stayed there. None are known in Mint State. The new Motto dies presumably arrived via Panama, a route sufficiently arduous to require No Motto production earlier in the year.(Registry values: P8) (NGC ID# 25VY, PCGS# 8300)
