Description:
Scarce 1868 Five Dollar, Choice AU
1868 $5 AU55 PCGS. This scarce, low mintage issue is usually encountered in VF to AU condition, but is almost non-existent in Mint condition (only pieces have been certified as such to date). This is a particularly choice example that shows equally strong details on each side. The surfaces are bright and retain a good portion of mint luster around the devices and each side has a rich overlay of reddish-gold patina. There are no marks worthy of singular mention, just the numerous small abrasions one would expect from slight handling. Population: 12 in 55, 2 finer (12/06).(Registry values: P3) (NGC ID# 25W5, PCGS# 8315)
