Description:
1869 Half Eagle, XF 45 PCGS
1869 XF 45 PCGS. An exceptionally rare With Motto five, the 1869 is just as rare as its mintage of 1,785 pieces implies. As usual for this issue, the fields retain considerable prooflikeness in spite of 15 points of wear. The design motifs are well struck in general with only slight softness noted on the neck of the eagle. An original piece, the surfaces have taken on an overlay of red and gray patina, and there are only small contact marks scattered across the surfaces. (NGC ID# 25W7, PCGS# 8317)
