Extremely Scarce 1892-O MS 62 Half Eagle1892-O $5 MS 62 PCGS. A difficult New Orleans half eagle at any grade level and the first issue of its denomination struck at the historic facility since 1857. Just 10,000 pieces were issued. Only a few dozen Mint State pieces are believed to survive, with none even rumored to be choice. This example is well detailed and particularly vibrant, with abrasions that are extremely light on the obverse and confined to the fields on the reverse. A couple of tiny copper stains are visible at the tip of the olive leaves, useful for reasons of pedigree. Surely one of the finest known 1892-O fives. Population: 4 in 62, none finer (8/99).
