Description:
Problem-Free Gem 1886 Nickel
1886 5C MS65 PCGS. While the 1885 is a higher visibility coin, the 1886 is actually scarcer. The reason for this misconception seems to lie in the lower mintage figure for the 1885 (1.4 vs. 3.3 million pieces). This coin has sharply defined features in all areas, including the ear of corn on the lower left portion of the wreath and the stars on the obverse. A thin coating of silver-gray toning covers each side with glowing, satin-like mint luster underlying the light layering of color. Exceptionally clean as well with lovely, problem-free surfaces. Population: 24 in 65, 3 finer (3/05).(#3847) (Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 22PK, PCGS# 3847)
