Near-Mint 1840 Quarter Eagle
Debut of Coronet Design
1840 $2 1/2 AU58 NGC. The debut of Christian Gobrecht's long-lived Coronet design for quarter eagle, the 1840 was a small issue (18,859 pieces) followed by the small or null output at Philadelphia in 1841. This near-Mint representative is softly struck but shows only minor true wear. The surfaces are pale yellow with overpowering radiance.(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 25GA, PCGS# 7717)
