Description:
Scarce 1840-O Quarter Eagle, Choice AU
1840-O $2 1/2 AU55 NGC. Large Mintmark. The 1840-O is a rare and underrated New Orleans quarter eagle. Only 22,800 pieces were struck of the Large O variant, and it is seldom located in AU or mint condition. Weakly struck, as always, there is a significant amount of mint luster that remains around the devices. The surfaces are peppered with numerous small abrasions but none are large or especially troublesome. Rich green-gold coloration.(#7720) (NGC ID# 25GD, PCGS# 7720)
